If you’ve never been to the Brewgrass Festival in Asheville, NC, well, you really have to get out more. This utterly unique event takes place on Saturday, September 21, 2013 from noon until 7:00 p.m.at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, a beautiful gathering spot. On tap will be more than 40 breweries based in the United States that will be serving up over 120 varieties of ice cold brewskies. An equally refreshing addition to the 17th annual edition of the festival is live bluegrass music. Past performers, who are of the regional as well as national persuasion, include the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Dry Branch Fire Squad, Norman Blake, Jim Lauderdale, Yonder Mountain String Band, Valerie Smith, and Sons of Ralph. What’s more, you’ll have your choice of fabulous food vendors.

Like all major festivals, the Brewgrass has its share of rules and regulations that everyone must follow to prevent the event from getting out of hand. Children are not encouraged to attend. However, they are most welcome if accompanied by a parent. Tickets must be purchased for kids over 7 years old while little ones under that age are free. You’re allowed to bring a backpack and chairs. However, you’re not allowed to bring coolers, pets, Frisbees, footballs or tents. Anyone who disrupts or endangers attendees will be removed from the festival, which is sponsored by the Great Smokies Craft Brewers Association and benefits Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Western North Carolina.
