Mark your calendar for the first Saturday of June for the annual Clay Day Festival, an annual tradition that will be running for 20 years in 2016. The event is hosted by the Southern Highland Craft Guild for the ce-ramic community and includes six hours of demonstrations over the kiln and free learning opportunities to learn from local master artisans. If you're a pottery enthusiast or just want to enjoy a taste of the arts and culture in Asheville, plan on spending the day at this artists' event.
The Folk Art Center is located at the Guild's headquarters and will be hosting this public event to introduce members of the public to the pottery wheel. Booths with Guild members will be set up behind the auditorium where visitors can shop for handmade items and see some of the latest collections by local artisans. Craft vendors will also be sharing their techniques and showing off the ceramic firing and glazing process.
Clay Day is a free event and runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 4. The Folk Art Center is located right on the Blue Ridge Parkway off Interstate 40.
